Event Management scholarships launched

The Hodgman Liberal Government is a strong supporter of Tasmania’s extensive events program and is actively contributing to the development of better event management through the 2017 Events Tasmania Development Scholarships.

These six scholarships valued at $2890 each will help build capacity in the industry and provide a professional development opportunity for a broad range of event organisers.

The successful recipients will be announced at the end of August and enable the winners to attended courses in either Melbourne or Sydney in September and October.

Events Tasmania has an ongoing partnership with the Australian Centre of Event Management, operating as part of the University of Technology Sydney, and as part of this partnership six places are offered for the Executive Certificate in Event Management.

Events from major food and wine festivals and sports events right through to smaller community driven events are proven contributors to Tasmania’s booming visitor economy.

During 2016-17 Events Tasmania investment more than $11 million into 80 events that returned around $68 million to the overall Tasmanian visitor economy.

Helping event organisers gain more experience and learn new ideas alongside other regional and national experts will help improve our events in Tasmania and make them more sustainable.

Tourism Tasmania, Events Tasmania and Regional Tourism Organisations have been actively canvassed about the scholarships and the benefits they will bring to the broader events industry.

Previous scholarship recipients include event organisers, council officers and Regional Tourism Organisation staff.
