The Tasmanian Government has a strong plan to invest more than $350 million in Tasmania’s prison infrastructure, modernising existing facilities while also addressing future capacity.
This plan will deliver substantial jobs, provide a major economic stimulus and support Tasmania’s building and construction sector.
A key part of this prison infrastructure plan is our commitment to build the $270 million Northern Regional Prison.
This vital project alone will support more than 1000 jobs and deliver an economic boost of $500 million to the region according to the recently completed and independently conducted Social and Economic Impacts Study.
Following community consultation we have identified a new site for the Northern Regional Prison, and we are committed to delivering this project in an effective and timely manner.
