Ask R U OK? not just today - every day

Today is R U OK? Day, and it is a timely reminder for all of us to check on the mental health of those we care about, including family, friends and colleagues – not just today, but every day.

It is a simple question that can do far more to help someone than you might think. It can change a life.

The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to making Tasmanians’ lives better and supporting everyone’s mental health.

We are working hard to build a better mental health system that provides the right care, in the right place, at the right time.

We’re investing $95 million into mental health care over the next five-and-a-half years to build new facilities, recruit extra staff, and provide new mental health beds.

This includes specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health facilities in Launceston and Hobart for the first time, and more support in the community.

Earlier this week on World Suicide Prevention Day, we launched the Tasmanian Communications Charter with the Mental Health Council of Tasmania.

This important document sets out key principles for our community to have safe conversations around suicide and mental health.

All Tasmanians interested in helping prevent suicide and reducing its impact in the community are encouraged to sign the charter and support its aims at https://www.tascharter.org/
