Action to address the cost of living

Taking action to address the cost of living is a priority of my Government.

That's why we have taken a deliberate decision to return windfall profits from our energy companies to Tasmanians through our Tasmanians First energy policy, rather than retain them in Government coffers.

The $125 Special Energy Bonus has been deliberately targeted to our seniors, particularly pensioners, to assist them address the rising costs of living.

We all know that to those on a pension every little bit counts, and this bonus payment will make a real difference after a tough winter.

The Government understands that many more Tasmanians are being hit hard by the cost of living, but there are only limited funds available at this time.

It's important to remember that the Special Energy Bonus is in addition to existing concession payments which will continue, including to eligible concession customers under the age of 65. On the advice of Aurora Energy and Treasury, existing concession card holders will automatically receive the payment via cheque prior to Christmas. Details of an application process for Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders will be made available shortly.
