2019 Federal Budget

The Tasmanian Government welcomes key investments in the 2019 Federal Budget which will help build the infrastructure our State needs for the future, and grow our economy.

In line with our own record investments in infrastructure, the Tasmanian Government welcomes an additional $210 million investment in Roads of Strategic Importance including;

  • $130 million for the Hobart to Sorrell Road Corridor,
  • $25 million for upgrade to the Murchison Highway,
  • $24 million for upgrades to Birralee Main Road,
  • $16 million for the Old Surrey Road and Massey Greene Drive, and
  • $15 million for Strahan Road.

To assist in combatting congestion, the Federal Budget confirms the $25 million under the Hobart City Deal to combat congestion as well as $10 million for a Tasman Highway Intelligent Transport Solutions plan.

Renewable energy is one of our most exciting opportunities and the Federal Budget locks in the commitment of $56 million to progress the Marinus second interconnector.

The Tasmanian Government welcomes the personal income tax cuts which will putting downward pressure on the cost of living and have a positive impact on around 200,000 Tasmanians.

With our state’s focus on trade and opening new markets for Tasmanian business, we also welcome the package of export grants which will assist our producers, as well as the $68 million investment in the third tranche of the Tasmanian Freight Rail Revitalisation Program which helps get our world class produce to market.

For only the fifth time in a quarter of a century, Tasmania’s economic growth for the last financial year was higher than the nation’s, and per capita, we are growing at our fastest rate in a decade, nearly double the national average.

The Tasmanian Government will continue to work cooperatively with the Federal Government to embrace the opportunities for our state as we plan for strategic growth so more Tasmanians, across every region, can share in our prosperity.
