2017 Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year Awards

*** Strictly under embargo until 11.59 pm – Friday 13 October ***

As Minister for Women, it was an honour to attend and co-present the 2017 Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year Award, in Australia’s longest running and most esteemed women’s awards program.  Now in its 23rd year, these Awards celebrate the important contributions Australian business women from different backgrounds and industries are making in their sector and the broader community.

Over a third (34 per cent) of small businesses in Tasmania are owned, and run, by women.

Like Telstra, we are also committed to raising awareness in the community of the wonderful achievements of not just our own local business women, but those all around the country.

Congratulations to the Award winners and all the other finalists who were nominated for their achievements in business.

The 2017 Telstra Tasmanian Business Women’s Awards winners are:

  • Entrepreneur Award: Alison Flakemore, Director, Alison’s Garden and Landscape
  • For Purpose and Social Enterprise Award:  Janine Arnold, CEO, Carers Tasmania
  • Public Sector & Academia Award:  Toni Moate, Director, National Collections and Marine Infrastructure, CSIRO
  • Corporate and Private Award: Camille O’Meara, General Manager, Business Services, Stornoway Maintenance
  • Young Business Women’s Award:  Dr Jessica Manuela, Practice Owner, Dental Surgeon & Director, Dental South
  • Telstra Tasmanian Business Woman of the Year: Toni Moate, Director, National Collections and Marine Infrastructure, CSIRO.

These exceptional women will now represent Tasmania at the National Final in Melbourne next month (21st November), and we wish them all the very best.

All nominees and finalists, not only this year’s winners, should be justly proud of their achievements and of the positive example they are setting other Tasmanian women.  Our young women, the future of our state, need inspiring role models – women who have led the way and have shattered those glass ceilings – so that they too can realise there is a world of opportunities available to them.
