$200 million boost for Tasmanian schools

The Federal Government’s education funding package announced yesterday equates to a $200 million boost for Tasmanian Government schools.

It provides certainty for 10 years, and supports the Hodgman Liberal Government’s clear track record on Education funding.

I can also confirm that none of the Catholic or Independent schools identified by the Federal Minister as receiving less money, are in Tasmania.

This is real money – costed and funded.

Both the Premier and I have repeatedly expressed our support for Gonski, which is why we committed our full  share of funding right from the outset - $134 million over 6 years.

We also welcome the end to the 27 separate deals with states and territories, unions and non-government school leaders which served to embed historical inequities under the current funding arrangements.

The Hodgman Liberal Government has a long term plan to improve educational outcomes, and we will continue to work with the Commonwealth to ensure every Tasmanian student can look forward to a brighter future.
