Huon Mid-Winter Festival

The eighth Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival is set to ignite the imagination of visitors who will gather to enjoy rich storytelling and the best of Tasmanian produce this weekend.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to support the Festival, which brings people from around Tasmania and interstate, with $200,000 for the 2019 and 2021 event.

The two day celebration in the name of ensuring a bountiful crop, will feature first-class local food and drink as well as bonfires, storytelling, music and dancing.

The Huon Valley Mid-Winter Festival has continued to go from strength to strength and is a wonderful example of why Tasmania has earned its international reputation for delivering bespoke and niche events.

While this year’s attendance numbers have been impacted by COVID-19 gathering restrictions, I congratulate the organisers on delivering a COVID safe event and on the inclusion of a live stream so people across the globe can also enjoy the Festival.

Our Government is a strong supporter of the events sector, which has a critical role to play in restoring visitation to Tasmania and stimulating the economy following COVID-19.

I thank the industry for its hard work and resilience over the past eighteen months and I look forward to continuing to work with industry to build an even stronger and more vibrant sector for the future.
