Vaccinations for five to eleven year olds

We welcome the decision by the Therapeutic Goods Administration to provisionally approve the Pfizer vaccine for five to eleven year olds.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is already planning to ensure that the vaccinations are rolled out as quickly as possible.

The date when the rollout will begin here in Tasmania will depend on final ATAGI advice but the aim will be to commence from 10 January 2022 subject to all approvals being in place.

I encourage parents to get their children vaccinated when the vaccine becomes available in Tasmania to further protect your family and your community.

We are still planning for the return of students to school on February 9, as the Public Health advice remains that the best place for children to be is in school.

We expect that all children participating in the vaccination program will have the opportunity to receive at least one dose before school returns.

The best way to protect the 5-11 year old age group in the interim is for the whole family to get vaccinated.
