Tasmania breaking more tourism and hospitality records

There is no doubt Tasmania has what the world wants, and this has been confirmed yet again by the fantastic record results for hotel occupancy levels announced today.

Minister for Hospitality and Events, Nic Street, welcomed the Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s Hotel Occupancy Report for January which showed that through the month, 83.16 per cent of Tasmanian hotel rooms were booked.

The number was even higher in Northern Tasmania, where 88.45 per cent of rooms were booked – beating the pre-pandemic record of 88.04 per cent from January 2020.

This data comes off the back of last month’s news that visitor spend was a record $3.5 billion for the year ending December 2022.

“Our plan to market Tasmania as a premium destination, as well as investing in our vital leisure and business events sectors, is working and our tourism and hospitality industries continue to be world-leading,” Minister Street said.

“Every dollar spent by visitors to Tasmania adds to our economy, especially in our regions, meaning more to reinvest into health, housing, education, and transformational infrastructure to set our State up for decades to come.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to do all we can to keep the momentum going and grow these vital industries even further.”
