I am pleased to announce that TasPorts will invest more than $2.4 million in the construction of a new multi-user roll-on-roll-off (RORO) ramp at the Port of Devonport, as part of our commitment to support King Island’s freight task at one of Tasmania’s key trade gateways.
Through consultation and feedback with King Island stakeholders, the Port of Devonport has been identified as the community’s preferred Tasmanian port. This has been reconfirmed through recent discussions with shippers, customers and the King Island Shipping Group.
The project will see the delivery of a new RORO ramp to the south of Devonport Berth 5 West.
Following the awarding of a construction contract to local Tasmanian company BridgePro Engineering, works are commencing now and TasPorts advises that the ramp will be operational in March this year.
Together, the Government, our Braddon members and TasPorts have worked hard and engaged with the King Island community. This investment is a demonstration of the Tasmanian Government's commitment to King Islanders.
The establishment of fit-for-purpose facilities at the Port of Devonport will play a critical role in supporting the Island's freight task now and into the future.
