Today is Corrections Day where we recognise and celebrate the significant contribution of our hardworking staff both within the Tasmania Prison Service (TPS) and Community Corrections each and every day.
Anyone who works in corrections deals with some incredibly challenging individuals and situations, but they play a vitally important role in keeping our community safe and assisting in the rehabilitation of offenders.
A career in Corrections is one that can be incredibly rewarding as you have the opportunity to not only improve the lives of individuals but also make Tasmania a safe place to live.
I extend my personal appreciation and thanks to all our staff working in both the TPS and Community Corrections for the valuable work that they do and, in particular, the commitment, expertise and enthusiasm that they bring to their work every day.
I have an opportunity to meet all our recruits as they train and enter the TPS and it is always encouraging to see the camaraderie and the strong commitment and positive attitude toward the rehabilitation of prisoners.
The current COVID-19 environment means the opportunity to hold events to mark the occasion are limited, but I know that both the TPS and Community Corrections are appropriately acknowledging the day with staff.
There are a diverse range of careers available within the field of corrections and I would encourage anyone considering a career change to look for current and future opportunities, including the currently advertised Correctional Officer positions, and consider how they could make a real difference to the lives of others and our community.
Corrections Day is a national initiative held in January of each year to recognise and promote the contribution of those working in Corrections.
