Throughout 2020-21, Aurora has continued to support its Tasmanian customers impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
As a result of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $125 Winter Energy Supplement for eligible concession households, about $11.37 million was provided to more than 90,000 Tasmanians to assist with the cost of their winter Aurora bills.
Aurora’s $5 million COVID-19 Customer Support Fund has also been instrumental in helping almost 400 small business customers and more than 3,800 residential customers with their energy bills, through waiving fees or charges and a range of other support measures - this is in addition to the more than 850 business customers recently receiving a $500 bill credit as part of Aurora’s Industry Support Payment initiative.
A regulated power price decrease for households of 7.11 per cent from 1 July 2021, and a reduction of 11 per cent for small business customers has ensured that Tasmanians have some of the lowest regulated prices in Australia.
The Tasmanian Government commends Aurora for its innovative actions to help the community throughout 2021, particularly through its YES program for customers experiencing financial vulnerability and for its work with community groups to educate Tasmanians on practical measures they can take to improve energy efficiency.
Tasmania’s renewable energy future is leading the nation, with the State now 100 per cent self-sufficient in renewable energy and with a global-leading target of 200 per cent renewable generation by 2040.
