A total of nine Tasmanian Government schools have extended to Years 11 and 12 this year as part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s plan to create a job ready generation of young Tasmanians.
Extension schools offer students choice, encourage them to remain engaged in education for longer and improve educational outcomes in the State.
Today I visited Exeter High School to tour the upgraded facilities and speak with students who have chosen to continue their senior secondary education at their local high school.
This is the first year every school in the Launceston region is providing Years 9 to 12 options.
It was also fantastic to hear about opportunities available to the students through the partnership in the Northern Urban Collective, and what they hope to achieve by the end of next year.
This collective of schools and colleges have been working in partnership to offer more individualised pathways for completing school in the setting that best suits the student and their chosen pathway.
The Tasmanian Liberal Government is committed to increasing retention and attainment rates, and ensuring students can access appropriate pathways based on their goals and aspirations.
This brings the total number of extension schools to 56 as part of the Government’s 2018 election commitment to extend all Government high schools to Years 11 and 12 by 2022.
