Felix Ellis, Minister for Skills, Training and Workforce Growth,

New training funding now available to get more Tasmanians into jobs

The Rockliff Liberal Government is building Tasmania’s future with a strong economy that is supporting more people into education and training to help create even more jobs.

Funding is now available for registered training organisations (RTOs) to provide nationally recognised training for Tasmanian jobseekers through the 2023 Building a Skilled Workforce – Jobseeker Fund.

``The Jobseeker Fund will focus on training that gets more unemployed and underemployed Tasmanians into jobs,’’ Minister Ellis said.

`` It will also focus on training for Tasmanians looking to upskill or gain new skills outside of their current employment are also eligible.

``This supports the Rockliff Liberal Government’s commitment to deliver the skills and training that local industry actually need and helps employers increase productivity, growth and expansion.’’

The Jobseeker Fund complements the delivery of fee free training places by TasTAFE, supported by the new 12-Month Skills Agreement between the Australian and Tasmanian governments.

This includes a focus on entry-level qualifications and skill sets to support priority groups into training in areas of high demand.

The Jobseeker Fund replaces the former Adult Learning Fund and builds on the recent successes of the JobTrainer Fund, which has provided almost 10,000 Tasmanian jobseekers with free training to improve their employment outcomes.

Skills Tasmania endorsed RTOs* can apply for grants from now until 2pm, Friday 23 December 2022.

The Rockliff Liberal Government is delighted that our plan is working and more than 27,000 students were enrolled in government-funded VET in Tasmania last year - an increase of 17 per cent from 2020.

*RTOs must be able to demonstrate that they meet eligibility requirements and application and grant conditions of the Fund and that they will act in accordance with the Department of State Growth (Skills Tasmania) Agreement for all Programs.
