There is no denying that Tasmania's COVID-19 recovery is well underway and jobs are being created for Tasmanians, with a key economic indicator on the health of our economy, being State Final Demand, stronger than it was before the pandemic.
This backed by ABS data released today which shows that the number of jobs in Tasmania continues to grow.
Payroll jobs are now 1.7 per cent higher than before the pandemic. Total wages are 1.9 per cent higher than before the pandemic. Our hospitality jobs recovery is the third best of the states. In the four weeks to 22 May 2021, payroll jobs grew 0.4 per cent, which was the third highest monthly growth of any state.
At the same time, we know that businesses are confident, investing and hiring. State Final Demand data last week found that business investment in Tasmania is 6.4 per cent higher than before the pandemic, in stark contrast to a decline seen nationally over the same period.
Preliminary job vacancy data also released today by the National Skills Commission shows that new job vacancies in May were 202 per cent higher than last year, which is the second highest growth rate in the country.
The fact is that 23,600 jobs have been created since 2014 and we have a clear plan to secure Tasmania’s future by growing the economy and creating jobs and importantly, this plan is working.
