A new program, launched today, will help develop the next generation of literary talent in Tasmania and build on our rich literary history.
The new Tasmanian Writers and Illustrators Mentorship Program has been developed by the Australian Society of Authors (ASA) with Arts Tasmania, and is aimed at linking Tasmanian authors and illustrators to national publishing networks.
It will allow Tasmanians to access professional development programs and mentorship opportunities, along with funding from Arts Tasmania, giving them the greatest chance of publishing success.
Through this new initiative, 20 Tasmanian authors and illustrators will be connected with a professional mentor, to guide them in preparing a manuscript to a publishable standard.
In addition to a 20-hour mentorship, each recipient will receive ASA membership with access to the ASA’s professional development program, to build knowledge around the business of writing and publishing.
As Minister for the Arts, I am pleased to be able to deliver this new mentorship program, continuing our Government’s strong support for Tasmania’s vibrant and thriving Tasmanian literary industry and also building on our commitment to Tasmanian writers through the reinvigorated Tasmanian Literary Awards.
Applications for the 2022 Tasmanian Writers and Illustrators Mentorship Program are open now, closing on 19 September 2022.
