More homes on the way for Tasmanians in high demand areas

The Rockliff Liberal Government is continuing to deliver new homes for vulnerable Tasmanians in regions of high demand.

The Clarence Plains area, which includes Clarendon Vale and Rokeby, is one of the fastest-growing regions in Southern Tasmania, with strong demand for social housing.

Mission Australia Housing Tasmania has recently completed construction of two out of 11 units in Lindrum Rd, Clarendon Vale – 10 two-bedroom units and one one-bedroom unit – with the remaining nine units to be completed by the end of April.

``It was fantastic to be able to visit three of these soon-to-be-completed units with MAHT State Manager of Operations Dan Frost and James Collins, from Ronald Young and Co Builders,’’ Minister Barnett said.

``MAHT is also nearing completion of three more two-bedroom units in nearby Willoughby Court.

``These 14 units have been developed on land owned by Homes Tasmania and will be subject to a 40-year ground lease to MAHT, who will be responsible for managing and maintaining the properties.

``MAHT is also building a four-bedroom unit in Greenlane Ave on land it owns, with this unit scheduled for completion in May 2023.

``These units will soon be providing new homes for priority applicants from the Housing Register.

``All units are being built to the Silver Level of the Livable Housing Design Guidelines, which ensures future flexibility and adaptability of the properties to avoid more costly modifications if required,’’ Minister Barnett said.

MAHT has also recently released 26 blocks of land for sale in neighbouring Rokeby, with the sale targeting affordable housing opportunities.

The Rockliff Liberal Government recognises the housing struggles facing many Tasmanians which is why we are responding with a massive 10-year, $1.5 billion housing package – the largest housing investment in the State’s history.

Our plan will deliver 10,000 new affordable homes and units by 2032 to meet the diverse housing needs of Tasmanians, including youth, the elderly, those living with a disability, men, women and families.

We also set an ambitious target to deliver 1500 social and affordable homes by June 2023 and we are tracking well with over 800 of these homes completed as at the end of February 2023.
