Labor has again shown they are more interested in cheap political point scoring than acting in the best interests of Tasmania’s economic future.
Labor’s treasury spokesperson’s ill-advised and childish attack on a Tasmanian Government mission to Indonesia in 2022 shows the Opposition's true colours.
Minister for Advanced Manufacturing and Defence Industries, Madeleine Ogilvie, said it was vital the State was represented at the Royal Australia Navy’s Indo Pacific Endeavour Task group visit to Indonesia in November.
"I am advised the primary reason for the high cost of fares was the late confirmation of dates for travel due to the offer to attend only being finalised with Navy and DFAT at the end of October," she said.
"Ministers do not book their own travel and are subject to the availability of flights.
"It was an important investment for Tasmania, as the mission has resulted in significant progress on opportunities for maritime training and education service providers."
The Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019 – 2025 identified Indonesia as a priority country for Tasmanian defence and maritime industry engagement.
Tasmanian trade with Indonesia comprises, $271.91 million of goods exported in the 12 months to September 2022.
