Investing in Tasmanian small businesses to support growth

Small businesses right around Tasmania will receive help to expand their operations, with the successful recipients of the $1 million Small Business Growth Strategy Grant Program announced today.

The program is providing grants of between $10,000 and $50,000 to fund projects that support business growth, enhance workforce capability, or to conduct feasibility studies.

Minister for Small Business, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the competitive program garnered huge interest during the application period.

“With funding requiring a co-contribution of at least one third of the total project cost from the applicant, and more than 200 applications, it is a strong sign that business confidence is high, and operators are looking to invest,” she said.

“It’s exactly what our Small Business Growth Strategy 2026 aims to do: encourage and enable our local businesses to take that next step up, invest in their own futures and the future of our State, and continue to help grow local jobs and the local economy.”

Naked Carrot, an urban farming business in Hobart that produces microgreens, was one of the successful applicants.

They will use grant funds for technology upgrades that will allow the automation and digital control of their growing processes, resulting in more efficiency, less waste and increased production.

Eight industry and employer peak organisations were also successful, receiving funding for feasibility studies and capacity enhancing projects that will benefit business in their sector and local regions on a larger scale.

“I congratulate the successful applicants on their commitment to creating a thriving business environment in Tasmania,” Minister Ogilvie said.

Details of successful recipients are available on the Business Tasmania website.
