Innovative program to boost supply of social housing in Tasmania

The Rockliff Liberal Government is focused on delivering for Tasmanians and caring for our community by delivering new housing to provide safe, affordable homes for Tasmania.

Minister for State Development, Construction and Housing Guy Barnett said innovation is key to building more homes, faster.

“ModHomes is our newest innovative and responsive program that will increase housing supply and get Tasmanians into homes sooner,” he said.

“Today, I’m pleased to announce the three successful Tasmanian businesses who will deliver our ModHomes program – Podmatrix, Davies Design and Construction, and The Bloc Collective collaborating with Platinum Pro Constructions.

“This $12.5 million program will see a minimum of 200 modular homes built over the next four years.

“The homes will be built on land owned by Homes Tasmania and will house vulnerable Tasmanians from the Housing Register.

“A key part of our ModHomes program includes training for young Tasmanians, providing employment opportunities and skills for them to thrive in the community.”

Modular construction has many benefits. Factory production of modular units uses a different workforce, creating more jobs at time when trades are at capacity. Weather-related delays are also significantly reduced in factory builds.

Modular units offer contemporary design and sustainable features and finishes that can be modified to meet tenant needs.

The ModHomes program will integrate into our 10-year, $1.5 billion housing package to deliver increased housing supply in Tasmania.
