Celebrating Neighbourhood House Week - Building resilience by bringing people together

The Tasmanian Liberal Government acknowledges the vital role Neighbourhood Houses play across Tasmania in connecting communities, and providing supports and services to Tasmanians in need.

It was great to join the Neighbourhood House Network to celebrate and launch Neighbourhood House Week 2022, to acknowledge our networks service to their local communities and reflect upon the theme of the week, ‘Building resilience by bringing people together’.

This resilience is being built through our $2.8 million Neighbourhood House Community Care Adviser Pilot, which is already delivering practical place based support to meet increased individual and community needs.

Delivery of the Pilot is now well underway, with a team of highly skilled professionals implementing our new and innovative model for individual, family and community support, across Tasmania.

This is part of our 2021 election commitment of $5.2 million in additional support for the Neighbourhood House Network, which includes an additional $2 million to bolster our Neighbourhood House Capital Improvement Program to further improve amenities at houses across the State.

Our investment also includes $400,000 over four years to increase governance capacity, and build strength in the Boards now and into the future.

With Houses managed by a Board comprised of volunteers, we want to help them learn the skills to navigate the complexities of overseeing their Neighbourhood Houses.

If you ever require support or assistance I encourage you to visit your local House and connect with your community, and you can check out the full list of Neighbourhood House Week events at https://www.nht.org.au/

On behalf of the Tasmanian Government, I thank the Neighbourhood House Network for their leadership in connecting communities, and thanks the dedicated workers and volunteers who ensure people in need receive the care and support they need, when they need it.
