Bumper summer season gives vital boost to Tasmanian economy

Tasmanian accommodation offerings continue to entice more and more visitors to our State, with new figures today showing bookings have returned to pre-Covid levels.

Minister for Hospitality and Events, Nic Street, welcomed the Tasmanian Hospitality Association’s Hotel Occupancy Report for February, which showed that through the month, 89.06 per cent of Tasmanian hotel rooms were booked – the highest single-month figure since February 2019.

The number was even higher in Northern Tasmania, where 89.97 per cent of rooms were booked while the North-West was also strong, with 88.07 per cent of rooms filled.

“Tasmania’s predicted bumper summer season has been confirmed and this increased visitation has helped fill our world-class restaurants, cafes and accommodation, stimulating economic activity and creating jobs in small businesses right across the State,” Minister Street said.

“Every dollar spent by visitors to Tasmania strengthens our economy, especially in our regions, meaning more to reinvest into health, housing, education, and transformational infrastructure to set our State up for decades to come.

“The Rockliff Liberal Government will continue to be a strong supporter of the vital hospitality sector.”
