Premier Jeremy Rockliff has today turned the first sod on the new state-of-the-art training facility for Tasmania’s vital building and construction centre.
“Our Government, in partnership with our building and construction sector, is getting things done to ensure we have the workforce for the future,” the Premier said.
“This facility is an excellent example of this investment in Tasmania’s training system and has been made possible through the High-Vis Army agreement with Master Builders Tasmania.
“Building and construction is already booming in Tasmania, with the latest NCVER apprentice and trainee statistics released this week showing that we had 52 per cent more construction trades workers in training in September 2022, compared with the same point in 2018."
“With around $16 billion worth of public and private projects and the construction of 30,000 homes in the pipeline, we are taking action now to keep this momentum going and ensure our State is ready.
“Our $9 million commitment is already helping the industry build the High‑Vis Army we need, and this facility is an important part of this commitment.
“This will be one of the best all-weather training facilities in Australia, using world-class technology to deliver post-trade training in areas such as waterproofing.
“It’s another demonstration of our Government getting things done to build a strong economy, so the entire State can benefit.”
