Applications open for GP After Hours Support Initiative

Applications are now open for our $3 million GP After Hours Support Initiative, which will help more Tasmanians get the right care, in the right place, at the right time, while reducing pressure on our emergency departments.

This will increase access to after hours care across Tasmania, delivering on a key election commitment for our first 100 days.

Round 1 of the initiative will be open to applications from GPs and pharmacies for funding, including:

  • Grants of up to $75,000 per pharmacy or GP practice for services provided 6pm through to 11pm weeknights and 8am to 12 noon on Saturdays, for a 12-month period; and
  • Grants of up to $125,000 per pharmacy or GP practice for services provided 11pm through to 8am weekdays or 12 noon to 6pm on Saturdays, and all day Sundays and public holidays, for a 12-month period.

These services will make it easier for Tasmanians to access medical care closer to home by working with the primary health sector to implement support and encouragement programs to provide after-hours care for their local communities.

This will complement our Community Rapid Response service and Secondary Triage programs, along with our $1 million Hospital Avoidance Investment fund, which will match private sector investment on a dollar-for-dollar basis to support capital upgrades for GPs and primary care providers.

Round 2 will be released in the coming weeks.

Applications for round 1 close on September 10, 2021. For more information, go to https://www.health.tas.gov.au/gpafterhourssupportinitiative
