Work progressing as we deliver on key Hobart City Deal projects

A dedicated transit lane on Hobart’s Southern Outlet is one step closer with the call for tenders today for a consultancy on detailed design options for this key project.

This consultancy will include broader community engagement and progress the proposal for the Southern Outlet transit lane, as well as bus priority measures on Macquarie and Davey Streets.

The consultancy will also include concept designs for a Park and Ride facility in Kingborough. This facility will make it easier for Kingborough residents to use public transport to access the Hobart CBD, utilising the new fifth transit lane on the Outlet, where buses will have priority.

Preliminary planning work has already begun on these projects and the next round of stakeholder consultation will start in the coming months, providing an opportunity for the community to provide feedback on initial concepts.

The planned Southern Outlet transit lane is part of the Hobart City Deal, which forms the blueprint for the Tasmanian Government’s coordinated plan to improve transport across Greater Hobart.

It is the latest in a suite of programs being rolled out across the Hobart road network, including the strategic deployment of new tow-trucks to quickly clear incidents, and the towing of vehicles from clearways on Macquarie Street during the morning peak.

The City Deal is supported by all levels of government and takes an integrated approach, using a variety of transport to improve travel around Hobart.

These projects will make public transport a viable option for more commuters and improve travel time reliability.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to investing in congestion-busting infrastructure. Through the 2019-20 State Budget, we are investing $1.6 billion into roads and bridges, ensuring Tasmanians are able to get to where they need to go, when they need to be there.
