Joan Rylah, Liberal Member for Braddon

Thank you AUSMAT and ADF

The Tasmanian Government’s number one priority is to keep Tasmanians safe.

When it became clear that there was an outbreak on the North West Coast, we acted swiftly, making hard but necessary decisions to get on top of it. Quarantining health workers and their families and households was a drastic but essential part of the process.

We are grateful too, to the Australian Medical Assistance Team (AUSMAT) and the ADF for responding to our call for assistance, flying in nearly 60 expert health professionals.

For more than two weeks, they worked with us, side by side, to get ahead of the virus.

The first task was a deep clean of the North West Regional Hospital. They also provided help with enhanced infection control, primary care, acute resuscitation, minor procedures, and consulting care.

On behalf of the North West and West Coast community, I would like to express our warmest thanks to the AUSMAT and ADF personnel.

Your work in the North West has made a crucial difference to us in the overall fight against coronavirus across Tasmania.

We thank you for your efforts.

A final handover with NWRH staff will take place today. ADF and AUSMAT personnel will fly out of Tasmania tomorrow.
