TESTING CONFIRMS SAFE SITE

To ensure the RHH Redevelopment site was safe, airborne asbestos fibre monitoring was conducted at multiple locations yesterday.

Project Director Ben Moloney said that all results were found to be below the laboratory detection limit of 0.01 fibres/mL.

“There is no evidence that any other areas of the construction site or hospital have been contaminated by asbestos from the contaminated soil.

“The contaminated soil is being removed and disposed of appropriately by a licenced contractor under appropriate controlled conditions.

“Appropriate protocol was instigated on 18 April 2019 when the materials were identified – contractors were removed from the site, the area was isolated, the industrial hygienist sampled the materials and the materials were contained by a licenced asbestos removal contractor.”
