The state’s first ICT Summit in Hobart today is an opportunity to progress our shared vision for the future of the industry in Tasmania.
Delivering on our commitment made at the last election, today’s inaugural ICT summit will bring together representatives of the industry and the private sector to meet with senior officials responsible for ICT across Government.
This summit is about collaborating and listening to the views of the ICT business community and understanding the challenges and opportunities facing the sector so we can continue to grow more jobs for Tasmanians into the future.
A recent Digital Pulse report, released by the Australian Computer Society (ACS), shows ICT jobs in the state are expected to grow at an average annual rate of 2.4 per cent, and forecasts a net increase of 1,000 jobs over the coming four years.
The science and technology sector is not only a significant contributor in its own right to the state’s employment and productivity, but also contributes significantly to Tasmania’s economic activity by delivering knowledge, products and services that foster growth, and solve problems in our communities.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to continue working with industry to shape a bold new vision for Tasmania’s ICT sector, with similar summits to be held twice a year into the future.
