Supporting Tasmanians in Isolation

The health, safety and wellbeing of Tasmanians is the Government’s number one priority, and I encourage everyone to look out for each other, stay connected while staying at home, and access supports if they are needed.

It is completely normal to feel anxious and uncertain during these unprecedented times, as it is having a significant impact on the lives of Tasmanians, particularly those in self-isolation.

That’s why we are providing $1 million to organisations such as the Red Cross, Salvation Army and Rural Business Tasmania to support vulnerable Tasmanians who are self-isolated and help support households impacted by the virus.

Tasmanians who are required to self-isolate due to COVID-19 are receiving support from a variety of organisations to deal with the adjustments needed to remain in self‑isolation.

This may include food hampers, counselling, delivery of medical supplies, psychosocial/mental health support or other essential items.  Support is also being provided to people in Government operated hotel facilities.

If anyone in self-isolation needs help, they can call the Public Health Hotline on 1800 671 738.

COVID-19 is presenting challenges we have never had to deal with before, and while we must stay physically distanced during this time, it is important to stay connected.

It is also important to know that support is available if you feel like you or a loved one are not coping, including:

  • Beyond Blue (1300 22 46 36)
  • Lifeline Australia (13 11 14)
  • Rural Alive and Well (1300 4357 6283)
  • Mens Line Australia (1300 78 99 78)
  • Kids Helpline (1800 551 800)
  • Alcohol and Drug Information Service (1800 811 994)
  • Quitline (13 78 48)
  • Tasmanian Service Directory  http://www.atdc.org.au/service-directory/

For more immediate support for people experiencing significant mental health problems, our Mental Health Services Helpline is available 24/7 on 1800 332 388, and in an emergency call triple zero.
