Bushfire-affected residents in Break O’Day now have access to $250 per adult and $125 per child, and up to $1000 per family to help cover the costs of immediate essentials.
Assistance is being provided through the jointly funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
Minister for Natural Disaster and Emergency Management David Littleproud said the Commonwealth and Tasmanian governments were working together to provide support.
“This payment helps those worst-hit by the fires get through the next few days,” Minister Littleproud said.
“It will put cash in the pockets of those most in need and helps to give them dignity.
“This can help families buy food, clothing or medicine while they wait for the all clear to go home.
“We’re closely monitoring the situation and will make further assistance available if it’s needed.”
Tasmanian Premier Will Hodgman said that Emergency Assistance Grants will be available from 5pm today for residents in the Break O’Day municipality who have had to evacuate and cannot return home tonight.
“Grants of up to $1,000 are available per family – $250 per adult and $125 per child. They can be used to buy clothing, food, transport, shelter and personal items,” Premier Hodgman said.
“Impacted individuals are able to apply for these grants in person, at Fingal Neighbour House, located at located at 20 Talbot Street.”
“Applicants are asked to bring photo identification with proof of address as this will be used to confirm eligibility for the grant.”
“We are continuing to monitor the situation and further assistance may be made available to support affected communities as required.”
