Step towards making the workplace safer

Tasmanians are putting their best foot forward to kick off 2019 WorkSafe month by taking part in the ‘Steps for Wellness Walk’, which took place on Parliament Lawns today.

The walk is the official start of WorkSafe month, which runs throughout October and is part of a nationwide effort to raise awareness about work health and safety, and to help reduce work-related injury, illness and death.

This year’s WorkSafe month theme, ‘Safe Bodies, Safe Minds’, focuses on the importance of physical and mental health and wellbeing at work, and what workplaces can do to ensure their workers are safer, healthier and more productive.

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s commitment to increasing work health and safety is delivering.

The most recent statistics show the total number of workplace injuries in Tasmania has been steadily declining over the past decade, declining 22 per cent.

But we know there is more work to do, which is why we will continue to have an active role working with both industry and the community to make Tasmanian workplaces the safest in the nation.

Everyone is encouraged to take part in the variety of free activities on offer during the month, including state-wide mental health first aid workshops, the WorkSafer Expo, and a virtual seminar series presented by Safe Work Australia.

More information about WorkSafe month and events can be found at www.worksafetasmonth.com.au or phone the WorkSafe Helpline on 1300 366 322.
