Safe Night Space funding to reduce homelessness

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is continuing its support to reduce homelessness and housing stress across Tasmania.

Today, we have provided a funding boost of a further $150,000 to continue the support for the Safe Night Space program which will enable it to continue throughout 2020.

The Government heard first hand today from the program’s team about the excellent work that is being done through the program since it opened its doors in December.

This program is providing a safe and accessible place for people to get a good night’s sleep as well as access to other services which assists them in transitioning into longer-term accommodation options.

We congratulate the Salvation Army and Hobart City Mission for leading this initiative and partnering with the Tasmanian Government to help find shared community solutions to homelessness.

This is just one part of the majority Liberal Government’s record investment of $258 million over eight years into affordable and social housing as part of a multi-faceted approach to addressing homelessness and housing stress around the State.
