Community and Public Sector Union leaders are attempting to direct workers at Forensic Science Services Tasmania to withhold calibration of Tasmania Police breathalysers – essential tools for public safety.
This means that there will be less tools at the disposal of Tasmania Police to detect and prevent dangerous drink driving on our roads.
This week Tasmania Police Acting Sergeant, Ann Edge, urged all Tasmanians celebrating racing at Elwick and Melbourne Cup festivities to drive responsibly, saying;
“Police want everyone to enjoy the festivities associated with Melbourne Cup… and urge people to drink responsibly and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.”
The union’s act is a disgraceful development and one which demonstrates the depths the CPSU’s bosses will sink to.
We believe Tasmania’s hardworking public servants deserve a pay rise, but it must be fair, it must be sustainable, and it must be affordable.
At present there is an offer of a six per cent wage increase over three years on the table.
It’s a fair offer which allows the Government to continue to invest record amounts into the services and infrastructure our growing State needs.
The CPSU union bosses must immediately cease this reckless behaviour which prevents the police from doing their job and protecting Tasmanians.
