Elise Archer, Attorney-General

Resignation of Public Guardian

Tasmania’s Public Guardian, Kim Barker has recently informed me of her decision to resign from her position, effective from 13 November 2020.

Ms Barker has held the position of Public Guardian since September 2015, and during this time has made a significant contribution to the protection of adults with disabilities in Tasmania.

During her tenure, Tasmania has seen significant changes to the disability sector with the continued implementation of the National Disability Insurance Scheme.

The position of Public Guardian will be advertised in the coming weeks to allow adequate time for a recruitment process to be completed.

The new Public Guardian appointed will work alongside Ms Barker for a period of time to ensure a seamless transition.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Ms Barker for her tireless and dedicated work over the last five years.

I congratulate her on her many achievements and wish her well for the future.
