Preventing tragedies on Tasmania's roads

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to keeping Tasmanians safe, and any fatality on our roads this holiday season is one too many.

Today the Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Mark Shelton was delighted to join representatives from Tasmania Police to launch Operation Crossroads 2019.

Tasmania Police will be out in force across the State this holiday season, targeting the fatal five - speeding, seatbelts, alcohol and drugs, fatigue and distraction – in the hope of having a fatality free Christmas/New Year period.

Last year 5 people were killed and 19 injured in crashes on Tasmanian roads over the holiday period and we desperately want to prevent that from happening again at this busy time of year.

Our commitment to increase Police numbers will ensure more Police on our roads, so drivers should think carefully about their behaviour behind the wheel for the sake of themselves, their families and other road users.

Operation Crossroads will run from Saturday, 21 December until New Year’s Day.
