The Hodgman Liberal Government is continuing to deliver affordable and secure housing for all Tasmanians, and today I officially opened five new supported living units at Violet Place, Devonport.
The development of the Violet Place Units is a collaborative response from Disability and Community Services, Housing Tasmania and the NDIA to provide an option for younger people needing high levels of physical support who may have otherwise relied on aged care facilities.
These units are a key deliverable for the North West as part of our Affordable Housing Action Plan, and have been designed and staffed to enable younger people to live in a tailored environment which caters for their specific needs.
The Tasmanian Government invested $1.45 million into the project, with local building firm De Jong and Sons Construction Pty Ltd contracted to build the units.
In addition to the five one-bedroom units at Violet Place, the site also includes a communal area, as well as staff accommodation that enables 24/7 staff presence on-site.
The project has been constructed on land delivered through the Devonport Land Release Project.
Tasmanian organisation Multicap was selected as the primary service provider after an extensive expressions of interest process.
