New Retail Record

In a string of strong results, Tasmania has recorded the fastest growth in retail trade in the country both in the year to, and month of November 2019.

Tasmanians hit the shops prior to the festive season, with retail turnover in Tasmania for November 2019 reaching $572 million in trend terms, hitting a new monthly record.

Over the year to November 2019, Tasmanian retail trade grew 4.9 per cent in trend terms, the highest growth rate in the nation, and nearly double national growth of 2.9 per cent.

Such strong economic news isn’t surprising as our economy is the fastest growing in the country and there are more people employed than ever before, leading to strong consumer confidence, allowing Tasmanians to support their local retailers.

With over 18,000 jobs created since the Hodgman majority Liberal Government came to office, our number one priority is creating even more jobs, and ensuring that all Tasmanians can share in the benefits of our strong economy.
