Medicare-supported MRI scans warmly welcomed

The Hodgman Liberal Government welcomes Senator Richard Colbeck and Liberal candidate for Braddon Gavin Pearce’s announcement of $32 million for breast cancer patients to have vital scans covered under Medicare.

This is a major boost for our community and will save patients up to $1500 a scan.

The new Medicare-supported MRI licence for Devonport means all major population centres in Tasmania have access to Medicare-supported MRI scans for the first time.

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Tasmanian women, and approximately 400 Tasmanian women will find out this year they have breast cancer.  More support is always welcome and better access can only lead to better treatment outcomes.

That is why early detection is vital, as when breast cancer is diagnosed early through screening, treatment is more successful.
