Tasmanian Labor has nothing to offer this state except negativity and fear.
Alison Standen’s release this afternoon includes a basic error which shows the Shadow Minister for Housing’s lazy approach to discussing what are actually very important measures.
When referring to the number of people housed, Ms Standen said “only 90 people per quarter are being provided with housing.” This is blatantly wrong. At best it is an error out of ignorance. At worst Ms Standen is being deliberately misleading.
If the Shadow Minister had bothered to properly examine the data, she would have seen that 135 people were housed in July, 114 in August and 90 in September. This adds up to 339 people that were housed in the quarter.
The Shadow Minister should retract her statements and apologise and not pass this off on a staff member mistake like she and her leader did during her ill-fated press conference in front of a “vacant public housing” home that was neither vacant, nor public, late last year.
Through our Affordable Housing Action Plans, the Hodgman majority Liberal Government is investing $258 million over 8 years on programmes that increase access to social housing, reduce homelessness, and improve housing supply across Tasmania.
It was the Hodgman majority Liberal Government that secured the historic agreement to waive the State’s housing related debt to the Commonwealth, freeing up more than $230 million that will be reinvested to improve supply and access to affordable and social housing.
This will provide access to accommodation for up to 400 Tasmanian households – something that would not have happened if Labor was still in government.
