His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, visiting Hobart

His Royal Highness The Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex KG GCVO is visiting Hobart on 9-10 April 2018 while in Australia to attend the Commonwealth Games and promote The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award.

HRH The Earl of Wessex, who is the Chair of the Board of Trustees of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award Foundation, will attend a number of engagements in Hobart to allow him to meet young Tasmanians undertaking the Award, as well as Award volunteers and supporters who drive the program in Tasmania.

The Award is a youth development program for 14-24 year olds who complete activities in areas such as volunteering, skill and physical recreation as part of a personal challenge to test their own persistence and achievements.

During his visit, HRH The Earl of Wessex will play a game of Real Tennis at the Hobart Real Tennis Club, as part of a world tour to raise awareness of the sport and fundraise for the Award. HRH will face a selection of junior players who have earned their place on court through a series of play off matches, and attend a fundraising dinner.

HRH will attend a breakfast at TasTAFE Drysdale Restaurant to recognise employers who are supporting the Duke of Edinburgh Award.

He will also visit St Aloysius Catholic College at Huntingfield to meet Southern Tasmanian students who are part of the Award program.

He will attend a luncheon at Government House hosted by Her Excellency Prof. The Honorable Kate Warner AC.

Tasmanians will have a chance to be part of HRH The Earl of Wessex’s first visit to the State by attending his public launch of the Bicentenary of the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens on Tuesday 10 April 2018 at 11am. Details at http://gardens.rtbg.tas.gov.au

HRH will officially open the new Lily Pad decks that have been designed and constructed to commemorate the Bicentenary. The Lily Pond was the original water reservoir of the site, irrigating the whole gardens, and is one of the most popular and most photographed features.
