Government action feeding a strong farming sector and growing our economy

Today’s official opening of Tasmanian Stockfeed Services’ new stockfeed mill in Devonport is another fantastic example of a project that is speeding up our economic recovery as we rebuild a stronger Tasmania.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is proud to have supported this expansion with a $6 million commercial loan to help fund this new state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

This is aimed squarely at supporting new local jobs and building on Tasmania’s reputation for excellence in agriculture and manufacturing.

Tas Stockfeed is the leading grain and stockfeed business in Tasmania, handling more than 120,000 tonnes of grain and processed stockfeed each year.

This new mill greatly increases the company’s production capacity and will also improve the efficiency of its manufacturing operations.

It also allows Tas Stockfeed to manufacture new products, such as pellets and organic feed products.

These types of products have generally needed to be imported into the state. The opening of the new mill will create opportunities for Tasmanian farmers to supply the grain needed to produce the new stockfeed products.

The new facility can produce up to 80,000 tonnes of feed pellets every year, and 65,000 tonnes of crushed grain mixes.

As a result of this investment, Tas Stockfeed now directly employs 50 staff and has a proud history of delivering quality products to numerous Tasmanian farms.

Today’s announcement once again reinforces our message that Tasmania is open for business.

Congratulations to Tas Stockfeed on its new feed mill, and thank you to the Office of the Coordinator-General and TasPorts for their efforts in facilitating this important investment for Tasmania.
