Glenorchy Employment Hub

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government is committed to creating opportunities for all Tasmanians through our economy, which is the fastest growing in the nation. We are committed to ensuring that all Tasmanians, no matter where they live, what their background is, or what their circumstances are, can grasp the opportunity to participate in Tasmania’s growing economy.

The addition of the Glenorchy Employment Hub will be a prime example of how we are helping to make that happen.

Today we announced the establishment of the Glenorchy Employment Hub with funding of $1.3 million.

This will fund the initiative for two years until 30 June 2022, and include:

  • Employing a Glenorchy Workforce Development Coordinator;
  • Establishing a Glenorchy Employment Hub;
  • Establishing a training fund to support the work of the above; and
  • Developing and implementing an employment transport program to trail innovative solutions to address transport barriers to employment.

This is on the back of last week’s announcement of $300,000 to extend the South East Employment Hub for a further 12-months, to ensure this already successful model continues to meet the current and future needs of the Sorell community.

This has been a genuine game changer since the Government began investing in the South East Hub as part of our now over $4.1 million Jobs Action Package, with 100 people securing local jobs as a direct result of the individualised focus, transport and training opportunities the South East Hub provides.

The Tasmanian majority Liberal Government’s priority is to strengthen the economy and create more jobs. With 21,100 jobs created since coming to Government, it’s initiatives like the South East and now the Glenorchy Jobs hubs helping to build the bridges, as well as bolstering partnerships with business and industry, so more people can have the opportunity to gain meaningful employment in Tasmania.

Through these initiatives, we are helping to overcome barriers to employment and to connect employers with local job seekers, which is improving employment outcomes for individuals, communities and industries in a number of regions across Tasmania.
