Find a ‘plus one’ this DonateLife Week

Tasmanians are incredibly generous, and that is reflected in our high percentage of registered organ donors across the state.

Tasmania has already achieved a record year for donation outcomes to date, with 12 Tasmanians donating lifesaving organs to 36 people.

With 48 per cent of Tasmanians registered to be organ and tissue donors, Tasmania has the second highest number of registrations in Australia.

In June 2018, there were just over 203,200 registered in Tasmania, and in June this year there were more than were 207,600.

We can continue to build on this by having even more people register during DonateLife Week, which runs from Sunday, July 28 to Sunday, August 4.

The focus of DonateLife Week is to encourage more Australians to register to be a donor and to have a conversation about it with their family and friends.

This year’s campaign is finding a “plus one”. If every registered donor found one person who isn’t registered and encourages them to register, we could double the amount of potential donors.

There are currently 14,000 Australians waitlisted for a transplant, and a further 11,000 on dialysis.

Registering online is easy and takes less than a minute, at www.donatelife.gov.au.

Once you have registered, it’s important to tell your family and friends about your decision.
