Confident businesses and a strong economy delivering jobs

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s number one priority is to create jobs for Tasmanians, and our Plan is delivering with today’s Australian Bureau of Statistics labour force data for September 2019 showing 700 jobs were created throughout the state.

This means since the Hodgman majority Liberal Government came to office 15,000 jobs have been created.

The unemployment rate has fallen to 6.4 per cent which is 1 per cent lower than when the Government came to office and the participation rate is increasing.

Such strong results do not happen by accident, they reflect the Hodgman majority Liberal Government’s long-term vision and plan to grow the economy which is leading the country and creating jobs.

Since we came to office nearly 1,600 new small businesses have begun operation and Tasmania is now leading the nation in many key indicators, including having the fastest growing economy in the country, for the first time in 15 years.

Today’s results are in stark contrast to the former Labor-Green Government where 10,000 Tasmanians lost their job, our state was driven into recession, and people were fleeing for the mainland.
