Our trade with Indonesia already amounts to more than $254 million a year and has been identified as a key trading partner of the future through the Tasmanian Trade Strategy 2019-2025.
This is particularly good news for our dairy, horticulture and red meat industries, which will see improved access arrangements and the reduction or removal of tariffs. It also presents new opportunities for our manufacturing and maritime sectors.
In February 2020, Tasmania hosted the Indonesian Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Mr Edhy Prabowo, along with a delegation from Indonesia's fisheries industry groups. During this visit, Minister Prabowo and Minister Rockliff witnessed the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Tasmania and the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, positioning Tasmania as Indonesia’s marine and maritime training and education provider of choice.
With a population of over 260 million and a growing middle-class, Indonesia presents huge opportunities for Tasmanian premium food and beverage producers.
