Tasmania’s nation leading fuel reduction program has significantly reduced the fire risk across our state, however, we all have a role to play to be prepared for the upcoming bushfire season.
To reduce the risk of bushfire this fire season, the Tasmania Fire Service is declaring an early start to the fire permit period, 28 September 2019, for Break O’Day, Glamorgan-Spring Bay and Sorell municipalities.
The Parks and Wildlife Service will also be implementing campfire restrictions in designated areas on the East Coast and areas of the North East from 28 September 2019. These restrictions will remain in place until the end of the fire season or the fire risk in those areas is reduced.
Tasmanians living in bushfire prone areas should know and practice their bushfire survival plans, and prepare their properties by removing flammable material from their yards and gutters.
While the state-wide relative bushfire risk is now the lowest it has been in 15 years, the Australian seasonal bushfire forecast predicts normal bushfire activity across the state, and potential above normal activity on the East Coast.
At all times, Tasmanians need to remain vigilant and heed advice from the Tasmania Fire Service, with our best bushfire defence always being preparedness.
