The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is delivering on its commitment to increase the supply of affordable and social housing, with our Affordable Housing Action Plan 2 on track to meet all targets.
The Tasmanian Government’s Affordable Action Plan 2019-2023 is a multi-faceted approach to tackle housing stress and homelessness around the state.
The first quarter reports that 142 households were assisted, which means a total of 1747 households have now been assisted through Action Plan 1 and 2, including the new supply of 1050 affordable land lots and homes since we launched the Affordable Housing Strategy in 2015.
These figures show that we have hit the ground running for our Affordable Housing Action Plan 2 and we have a strong pipeline of work with over 100 houses currently under construction.

As we saw at the Housing Ends Homlessness Expo, held last weekend, affordable home ownership is a key part of addressing the challenges in our housing market. There was significant interest from Tasmanians looking for more information about our products.
Key projects already underway in Action Plan 2 include the Huntingfield land release, and the Wirksworth Integrated Aged Care Facility, along with increasing the supply of homes in our regions.
Today we can also announce the start of construction for the new 25-unit complex in Goulburn Street, designed to cater for older tenants and those with a disability.
Congratulations to Fairbrother Construction which has won the tender for this $9 million project which is expected to be completed in around 16 months.
The complex will comprise 19 two-bedroom units and 6 one-bedroom units at this strategic inner city site.
In addition to helping to addressing the need on our housing register, the Goulburn Street project will create about 60 FTE construction industry jobs, providing a significant employment and economic boost.
