A Future Program for Family Based Care

Today marks the release of the Government’s Discussion Paper: A Future Program for Family Based Care, which forms part of the Government’s commitment to  deliver an improved approach to family based care and ensure young people in care have the best possible start in life.

Outcomes for children and young people in out of home care should be the same as for any child in the community -  they have the right to the same expectations and hopes for their future.

The discussion paper acknowledges the value of family based care in the out of home care system and seeks views on how that care is best delivered to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people.

The Government is committed to ensuring that our carers are well supported to meet the needs of the children in their care.

The paper has been drafted in consultation with a number of key stakeholders with further consultation, including state-wide forums, to be conducted as part of receiving feedback on this important area of reform.

The discussion paper is available online at www.communities.tas.gov.au/children/oohc_project.
