CONTINUING INVESTMENTS IN THE NATIONAL TRUST

Madeleine Ogilvie MP, Minister for Heritage

The 2022-23 State Budget is about strengthening Tasmania’s future, which is why it includes an additional $300,000 package of assistance to the National Trust.

The additional funding will enable the Trust to continue to be an important community organisation which contributes to our State’s rich and diverse historic heritage helping to set us apart from other tourism destinations.

The National Trust Tasmania has been operating since 1960, and is a community-based organisation governed by the National Trust Act 2006.

Through the support of its members and volunteers, the National Trust has played a critical role in advocating for Tasmanian heritage places.

Due to the work of the Trust, a number of significant heritage properties throughout the state now belong to the Tasmanian community and are able to be enjoyed by locals and visitors.

The National Trust’s operations have been significantly impacted by the pandemic, and this support is targeted at helping the National Trust continue major activities, including:

  • The management, presentation and promotion of heritage properties in Tasmania that are open to the public
  • The coordination of the Tasmanian Heritage Festival, the State’s largest celebration of our island’s cultural heritage.

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is a strong supporter of the National Trust and the vital work it does in preserving the State’s built heritage as well as the significant contribution this makes to the fabric of our community and the visitor economy.

This is a Government with integrity and heart, one that is courageous, accountable and delivers on its commitments.

That’s why we are continuing to deliver our record infrastructure program, to build thriving, connected communities, harness our competitive advantages and create more opportunities for Tasmanians in every corner of our State to maintain a robust economy so that we can invest where it matters most.
